WASHINGTON — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made it clear Monday he won’t bend to U.S. pressure to accept a framework for peace talks with Palestinians.
Speaking before an Oval Office meeting in Washington, President Obama pressed Netanyahu to make “tough decisions.”
“It is still possible to create two states, a Jewish state of Israel and a state of Palestine, with people living side by side in peace and security,” Obama said. “But it’s difficult. It requires compromise on all sides.”
But Israel’s prickly prime minister gave no ground. “Israel has been doing its part, and I regret to say that the Palestinians have not,” Netanyahu told Obama.

Stop Pretending the Israelis are Dealing with a Rational Enemy They Can Negotiate With; Hamas is Their Ruthless Adversary to the Death
The recently suspended Israeli counter-offensive Operation Pillar of Defense represents merely a short-term solution rather than a long-term strategy. Many Israelis regard this operation in much the same way they saw the 2008 campaign called Cast Lead — as nothing more than a periodic effort of "cutting the grass" of terrorism to hamper Hamas's military capability. The 2005 decision to withdraw from Gaza has proven a security disaster, but few Israelis want any part of governing the Gaza strip again. They know a peaceful, negotiated two-state solution is a fantasy. All they hope for the present is that Hamas can be prevented from immediately threatening their country, so they support security operations in Gaza that will make it harder for Hamas to terrorize millions of Israelis with weapons like the Iranian-supplied Fajr-5 rockets that have been raining down mayhem on innocents.
The Israeli consensus that they confront a ruthless adversary to the death frustrates international leftists who insist they can solve a problem that citizens of the Jewish state understand has been proven to be intractable by 20 years of failed "peace process." Israelis understand that the last thing Hamas wants is either peace with Israel under any circumstances or democracy for the so-called Palestinians.
Far from bolstering "the Palestinian state," Abbas and the Palestinian Authority, the current terror campaign is designed to boost Hamas's standing among global jihad and the Palestinians at Fatah's expense. Moreover, Hamas's leadership believes the prestige it has received from Obama's diplomatic meddling and statements of moral equivalency with Israel, and from Egypt and Turkey rallying to the jihadists' side, renders Abbas obsolete. In a sense, Hamas is right. The current fighting dramatically underscores that a "Palestinian state" already exists in Gaza and its leaders are committed to sacrifice the Palestinian people on the altar of unending war with Israel rather than provide decent government or peace.
Pretending Hamas and Fatah are not fully dedicated to the annihilation of Israel and all the Jews is childish. Demanding, as the progressive left is doing, that the West abandon its efforts to isolate Hamas won't revive incinerated prospects for a negotiated two-state solution. But further toleration and legitimizing of a militant, violent, brutal, dictatorial Islamist regime in Gaza could well embolden Hamas and its terror sponsor in Iran and elsewhere to think that they can eventually seize the West Bank and all Eretz Israel — to the ruin of us all.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has launched an international campaign to achieve recognition by the United Nations for an independent Palestinian state. Abbas and his international supporters claim that only Israel (with the United States) stands in the way of this act of historical justice, which would finally bring about peace in the Middle East.
This video debunks the Palestinians' claim and shows that Abbas has been lying about the origins and history of the conflict. Palestinian leaders have rejected partition plans that would have given them much more land for their independent state than the Jews were offered for theirs. Rather than being the innocent victims of a "dispossession" at the hands of the Israelis, the Palestinians rejected reasonable compromises and instead pursued their aim of getting rid of the only Jewish state in the world.
